October
Exhausting fall!!!!!!
Shoots! Tour! Live shows! I have a working camera again!
October’s Picnic Punk can be listened to here!
Last winter I produced two ‘Smalls’ for Adult Swim created by mad genius Michelle Gold. The first one Jupey’s Journey is out now!
Jupey & her creators Melisandre Osnes, Manolo Moreno and Michelle Gold.
Honored to help produce the east coast and Chicago shows for Best Show 25th anniversary tour!!!
Jelloman is technically banned from Union Transfer but they made an exception, though there was a long list of things he was not able to do. Riding on a motorized wheel with Perry on his back was not on there.
Or giving out his signature Jello shots.
Thalia Hall’s backstage area was built originally as a stable. Chicago is so cool.
Beyond the decor are hitches to tie your horse to. Also in the basement is a bar with a giant aquarium where they give everyone a free shot of malort when its time to “feed the fish” at midnight.
We just finished our 20+lb bag of apples. Och’s Orchard is heaven to me.
I went to Philly once or twice a week for a month and a half……… Here’s Nneka rocking on her bday with her band Mopar Stars who freaking rock.
Artificial Go at U4 fest.
Ali and her camera assistant Sebastian.
Halloween weekend with 400+ trick or treaters is a perfect bookend to a jam packed month. I was so busy I did not get close to finishing a roll of film, so Halloween may have to wait to be celebrated on this substack for a bit.
Reflecting:
Just over a decade ago I was working two jobs with massive responsibilities and little pay. I would work 10 hour overnight shifts at a domestic violence safe house as a case manager and hotline worker, and then go assistant teach at a Montessori pre-school one hour later. I was on foodstamps, medicaid, and ran out of money for oil for heat over the winter. Thinking of what my clients (and myself!) would be dealing with in a pause in benefits is terrifying.
I was able to switch careers back into video and my quality of life improved ten fold. The current video landscape is shaky and scary - this past month the looming layoffs over at Paramount Inc were haunting even as a“fulltime contractor”. This massive job slash seemed to only impact those who were “staff” so as of writing this I am safe. What the future holds, who knows!
How are you?
